The needlecrafts and jewellery making group has been running for a year and is very successful – with most weeks seeing over 20 people attending!
We look at working on various projects throughout the year. Over the last year we have worked on making items such as blankets, toys and bracelets. We sold these from a stall at our community carnival held in August. We then made more items for a Xmas fayre, which was organised by the group. We are now making baby hats for maternity units.
The group is very relaxed, most people either knit or crochet but we are open to other activities. Everyone helps each other with patterns and techniques. A small group of mainly younger ones like making jewellery and we have a variety of beads and equipment etc for people to practice with.
The group gives a lot of pleasure to those attending. Our participants say they love the company and the conversation and the sense that we have a common goal. There are many proven benefits to crafting which people might not realise they are getting and which are beneficial to your mental health, for instance – improving concentration and memory and reducing stress.
Why not come along and have a go, whether you are good at crafts or not, you’ll love the company.
