The community garden has been open over 2 years and surrounds the new Community Hub at 132 Shawbridge Street The garden space is open to anyone who would like to spend some time participating in a positive community project. Sessions with our trained gardener Angela run every Friday and you can come along for the whole day or just pop in for an hour or two.

The community choir is coming up for its 3rd year. The choir is led by a trained musician. People can join at any time and indeed new people join in practically every week. The choir has done a few performances in the area. Which people taking part say has helped their confidence.

Over the last couple of years we have found funding and worked with partners such as Clyde College to run a variety of courses and workshops such as First Aid, Food Hygiene, Jam and pickle making, sewing, cookery and IT.

For the last 12 years with the exception of 2015, Pollokshaws Area Network and partners have planned and run a community carnival in Pollokshaws. Unfortunately due to capacity and funding we were unable to run it this year, but plan to re establish it in 2016 Over the years the event has grown and is attended by upwards of 1,000 people. It is planned and co-ordinated by a number of our partners and around 10 -15 local groups and organisations get involved by putting on stalls and activities, such as photo exhibitions, children’s games, sewing displays, baked goods, they also produced flags, bunting and banners, masks for the parade, they also helped to run the event or providing entertainment. The carnival is a great celebration of the community, bringing a wide range of people together and best of all its fun and free!!

The group gives a lot of pleasure to those attending. Our participants say they love the company and the conversation and the sense that we have a common goal. There are many proven benefits to crafting which people might not realise they are getting and which are beneficial to your mental health, for instance – improving concentration and memory and reducing stress.

Our 45minute yoga sessions have been running for a year and are very popular. Yoga is beneficial to people of all levels of fitness and all ages and our class certainly reflects this. We have participants in their early 20s right up to their 80s.

We run 2 x sessions of low impact exercise per week. Mainly attended by the over 55’s but anyone can come along. Participants love the class saying its fun and friendly and the of course the benefits of exercise are well documented!

Pollokshaws Area Network is made up of trustees and a wider membership of local individuals, community groups, voluntary organisations and churches. We also work with a wider group of partners.
