For the last 12 years with the exception of 2015, Pollokshaws Area Network and partners have planned and run a community carnival in Pollokshaws. Unfortunately due to capacity and funding we were unable to run it this year, but plan to re establish it in 2016 Over the years the event has grown and is attended by upwards of 1,000 people. It is planned and co-ordinated by a number of our partners and around 10 -15 local groups and organisations get involved by putting on stalls and activities, such as photo exhibitions, children’s games, sewing displays, baked goods, they also produced flags, bunting and banners, masks for the parade, they also helped to run the event or providing entertainment. The carnival is a great celebration of the community, bringing a wide range of people together and best of all its fun and free!!

The group gives a lot of pleasure to those attending. Our participants say they love the company and the conversation and the sense that we have a common goal. There are many proven benefits to crafting which people might not realise they are getting and which are beneficial to your mental health, for instance – improving concentration and memory and reducing stress.
